Accomplished Peeps working in the remote space are often really good at gracefully dancing between time zones, languages, and the teams they manage, all without sacrificing incredible leadership. Flávia Ibri is a wonderful example of this. She is the Head of HR for the Latin America Region within IQVIA and has 15 countries under her direct responsibility. A typical day for her starts in Portuguese, then moves into Spanish and English all day long. Dealing with 5 different time zones and 15 different cultures means that her day is quite varied, and is comprised of different tasks, meetings, and decision making involving human capital strategies. In our conversation with Flávia, she shared a bit about her working style and some of her personal habits and rituals that keep her focused and successful within her role.
Describe your personal workspace
Since Covid my workspace has been a mix between an office at my company building in Sao Paulo and a private room in my own house. Full of post-it, books, pencils and cables, it is a dynamic workspace not indicated to a very organized kind of person.
My workspace would be classified as - Chaotic to the bone. A mix between personal and professional objects, work and food related (I'm always hungry when I am working), and very colorful (I am a post-it maniac).
I like to keep moving things from one place to another, this helps my creativity and innovation process.
What's one habit or ritual you need to start and finish your day?
My day starts with 3 min of “green contemplation”. I have a need to connect myself with nature and spend a few minutes contemplating a tree, for example, this is what I need to really wake up and kick off my day.
To close the day I need to make sure that one of my many to do post-its are crossed off and discarded. This gives me a sense of accomplishment.
How do you limit distractions while working from home...or do you?
Very hard to do it but I think now I am managing this better than before. My way was to secure one specific place to work - instead of using the entire house as my office. Locking the door also helps to keep my kid - and my dog – out, avoiding distractions.
Is there one particular podcast or Youtube channel that you can't stop listening to or watching?
No one in particular. I like to have different sources of knowledge and few of them are:
The Harvard Business Review
Dave Stachowiak - https://coachingforleaders.com/
Sonata Brasil - Leadership Academy
If you could be doing anything else than what you're doing, what would it be?
Living abroad, studying.
